Top Ten Movies Every Photographer Must See

This post is the latest in the Photography Series which profiles interesting information, thoughts and research  that Kike learns about during his travels.

Some of them are inspiring stories about photography, and some are unrelated stories that charm the eye with their stunning cinematography.

1. Days of Heaven

Described by some as the “most beautifully filmed movie of all time,” Days of Heaven describes the life of a farm worker and the woman he loves. He convinces her to marry his rich boss in order to have a claim to their vast wealth. The stunning shots and sensitive lighting make this film true visual poetry.

2. A River Runs Through It

This classic coming-of-age tale is set in the wilderness of Montana. Anyone who has ever wanted to experience the feeling of the wide prairies, golden afternoons on the river, and jagged mountains punching upwards into the endless Western sky, can find them captured here. A moving story, and moving images to go with it.

A biography of the man often seen to be the greatest photographer of the 20th century. Cartier-Bresson had a knack for capturing unique, fleeting moments that are etched in our memory even today.

While Cartier-Bresson was taking photos in Europe, Ansel Adams was traveling through American nature creating his world-famous body of work. This film is both a story of his life and photographic journey and an appreciation of America’s natural treasures.

This brilliantly filmed Spanish masterpiece is a portrayal of the play Carmen. Much of the film consists of shots framed around the beauty of the dancers and the passion they convey.
